Rosland Road Fire progression stopped

Fire behavior lessens as wildfire hits previous fuel treatment.

The Rosland Road Fire, which began at 2 p.m. this afternoon, received both air and ground resources throughout the afternoon and evening that stopped the forward progression of the fire. The fire, which caused a Level 1 evacuation order “Get Ready” by the Deschutes County Sheriff for the Newberry Estates subdivision, northeast of La Pine, Ore. grew to approximately 200 acres.

The fire burned intensely in some portions, but fortunately ran into an area that had previously had been treated by the Forest Service to remove hazardous fuels. Once the fire reached those treatments the fire behavior lessened and allowed firefighters a greater range of options for fighting the overall fire.

A Type Three Team, managed by Incident Commander Vince Grace will take over the fire tomorrow morning at 6 a.m. Firefighters were pleased at the end of the day with their ability to stop the progression of the fire.
