Area Closures and Evacuations for the Green Ridge Fire remain in effect

Post-burn on the top of Green Ridge

With a cooler day yesterday and not as much smoke in the air from the Green Ridge Fire, many people are wondering if the Green Ridge closures and evacuation levels are still in place – especially as we’re heading into hunting season!

Please remember that these closures are determined not only based on current conditions, but also on what the fire could do in the next several days. The Sisters District Ranger and Emergency Managers with Deschutes and Jefferson County Sheriff Departments are working closely with fire officials to determine when closures and evacuation notices can be lifted.

Until that time, you may have to find a different place to camp, or a different route to your favorite spot outdoors. For now, folks in the evacuation area have plenty of time to plan how they would leave if the fire moved toward them, campers can set up in a safer spot and hopefully not have to re-locate during their trip, and fewer vehicles on roads busy with fire equipment keeps you and and our firefighters more safe.
