Current Situation: While the rain has moderated fire behavior, especially in open areas where grass and brush are the primary vegetation, it will not put the fire out. Fire will continue to smolder under the tree canopy in heavier fuels like logs and stumps. Firefighters have been taking advantage of the weather to search out and extinguish hot spots close to the fire perimeter.
Today’s Activities: Smoke may continue to be visible within the fire’s perimeter. Firefighters are seeking out areas of heat to be extinguished along the fireline. Crews and heavy equipment continue to expand and strengthen containment lines along Abbott road and elsewhere in places that the work can occur safely and effectively. Trees weakened by fire that are around structures, along roads or adjacent to firelines are being felled to improve safety for crews and later, the public. In areas where the fire is contained, fire suppression repair is occurring to address potential soil erosion and impacts resulting from fire suppression activities.
Pacific Northwest Team 3 transitioned with the outgoing Southwest Incident Management Team 1 yesterday evening. The two type-1 incident management teams have been working together since Wednesday afternoon to ensure a smooth transfer.
