The ridge of high pressure that brings warmer and drier air is expected to rebuild over the region beginning today. Firefighters expect to see more smoke inside the fire area as relative humidity drops once again. The Incident Meteorologist is forecasting a significant change in the weather for the upcoming weekend. Forecasting models are showing varying amounts of rain, but measurable precipitation is expected to fall over the fire area beginning on Friday and persisting through the weekend.
Through the hard work from firefighters, the incident is now 78% contained. The fire has not grown and remains at 173,094 acres. One acre is roughly the size of 3/4 of a football field. The Holiday Farm Fire is approximately 129, 821 football fields in size. This is a large area for firefighters to work.
Although firefighters have been diligent in locating and extinguishing hot spots, there will continue to be areas of smoke and heat until winter precipitation extinguishes them. Firefighters have been focusing their efforts on the perimeter and areas immediately adjacent to the fire line, as well as around structures. Smoke located deep within the fire area are no threat to the containment lines and should not be reported to 9-1-1.
