Petes Lake Fire Smoke Column Visible from Central Oregon

Although the Petes Lake fire has been relatively calm due to cooler temperatures and rain, the current hot and dry conditions have caused a visible smoke column to appear today.

It’s expected that this smoke will persist for several days, as there’s no precipitation on the horizon and temperatures will remain high. A fire closure remains in effect, and it’s imperative that recreationists respect the closure. Fire activity could escalate, especially with the expected winds in the area.

Please visit the Deschutes National Forest website (Deschutes National Forest – Home (usda.gov) or click on the following link (Deschutes National Forest – Alerts & Notices (usda.gov)) to read the closure.
