Three and a Half-Acre Live Fire Exercise Planned for Tuesday One Mile West of Bend

Bend, Ore – Today firefighters will be conducting a live fire training one mile west of Bend, adjacent to Forest Service Road 4606 and north of Tumalo Creek as part of a training component of Central Oregon Prescribed Fire Training Exchange (TREX).

Ignitions are planned for around noon. There are no road or trail closures anticipated, but the public is asked to slow down and use caution in the area as firefighters and firefighting equipment will be present along Forest Service Road 4606.

Participants will completely extinguish the fire before they leave for the evening. Firefighters will conduct daily patrols to monitor the burn area until they declare the burn out.

The objective of the two-week TREX program in Central Oregon is to facilitate peer-to-peer, experiential learning for prescribed fire professionals and others interested in advancing their understanding of ecological burning to restore fire-dependent ecosystems.
