Courtrock Fire Update | August 15, 2024

Acres: 20,019 acres | Start Date: July 21, 2024 | Cause: Lightning | Fuels: Timber, Grass, Brush | Containment: 99% | Resources: 100

Highlights: Infrared flight (IR) detected a few heat sources near fire line perimeter. The Remote Automated Weather Station (RAWS) located within the fire recorded .09 inches of rainfall received overnight. Fire personnel are in mop-up phase.

Objective: An infrared flight flew over the incident last night and identified approximately thirty heat sources, most of them being interior with only a few near the fire boundary. Today crews will be gridding and cold trailing those hot spots to secure the line and inside the perimeter of the fire to 300 feet or as adequate to ensure the fire will not escape or spot across existing fire lines. A solar-powered Remote Automated Weather Station (RAWS) measures wind speed, direction, air temperature, precipitation, relative humidity, solar radiation and fuel moisture. The data is collected hourly and is used to assist with firefighting strategies and decisions. The RAWS located within the fire detected .09 inches of rainfall overnight. Heavy equipment will continue repairs to mitigate or minimize impacts from fire suppression. Some resources assigned to the fire will be available to respond to new initial attack incidents which may occur from the lightning that is predicted today.

Weather: A Red Flag warning is in effect from 11 am this morning to 11 pm this evening for abundant lightning. Showers are impacting central Oregon zones early this morning. Not much lightning has been observed thus far, however weather models suggest that thunderstorm activity could ramp up for the zones that are under Red Flag warning later this afternoon.
