Highlight: Fire personnel continue to hold and improve containment lines, suppress hotspots and monitor fuels that are burning interior. Heavy equipment and crews continue suppression repairs and line rehabilitation.
Objective: Continue with direct fire suppression tactics and mitigate any threats that could compromise control lines. Fire management personnel are implementing proper tactics to protect values at risk, minimize impacts to all properties, private, state and federal while maintaining the safety of the public and fire personnel. The west side of the fire still contains some heat which crews continue to address. Additional heavy equipment including excavators and skidgines have arrived and will aide in dozer line rehabilitation. On the east side of the fire, crews and equipment will be repairing berms created by dozer lines and adding water bars as needed. There are still areas of unburned fuels. The unburned areas within the interior will be monitored as they continue to burn so those fuels can be consumed. Thick unburned vegetation that is closer to the fire’s edge will be removed by crews or equipment, so they no longer pose a threat to containment lines. Some resources assigned to the fire have been identified to assists with any new initial attack incidents as needed.
Weather: A fire weather watch is in effect from this evening through Thursday morning for abundant lightning.Dry weather expected today, before a weather system brings a chance of showers and thunderstorms late tonight starting in central Oregon. Relatively cool temperatures as of late may impact storm development, however weather models do suggest a threat for nocturnal storms through the overnight hours heading into Thursday. Outside of central Oregon, showers and thunderstorms are expected to be wet enough during the day Thursday to preclude any fire weather headlines for now. Friday looks to be quieter with light shower chances over the eastern mountains, before another chance of showers and storms rolls through the forecast area on Saturday.
Closures: Driving in or visiting the areas affected by Courtrock Fire is a violation against a Forest Service closure order. Please wait to visit until the closure order is lifted, which means the area has been stabilized.
Evacuations/Shelters/Closures: Level 1 evacuations are in effect for some areas.
